Description

The first Falmouth Spring Festival in 2011 was a great success and award so going to do it again!! The dates for 2012 are 17- 25th March. There's loads happening which we've listed below. Do come back to this page as we'll be updating details frequently...

10 March

Guerrilla Gardening Day
This year we’ll be revamping a number of sites around the town so if you’d like to come along and get your hands dirty for a good cause then just shout!

16th March

Paint the Town Yellow Day
The town becomes a blaze of yellow in preparation for the Festival as local schoolchildren and interior design students from the University College Falmouth, brighten up dozens shop windows with an assortment of daffodils and decorations

Launch of National Maritime Museum Cornwall’s new exhibition ‘Search & Rescue’
This amazing exhibition takes you on an interactive, stimulating and emotive journey into the role of the maritime rescue services, celebrating the work of the RNLI, Royal Navy, Royal Air Force, HM Coastguard and others. Objects of epic proportions include a 70ft Sea King helicopter, kindly loaned by the MOD, one of the Museum’s most ambitious installations.

17th March

Rock pooling sessions on Castle Beach.
Just turn up at Castle Beach and you will be provided with a scavenger hunt list. There will be rock pooling support on hand to answer any of your queries.

Get Arty!
Get arty on the Moor with Falmouth Art Gallery and students from University College Falmouth with a range of free art & craft activities for all the family.

18th March

Mothering Sunday FREE entry for mums to National Maritime Museum Cornwall and Trebah Garden

Rock pooling sessions on Castle Beach.
Just turn up at Castle Beach and you will be provided with a scavenger hunt list. There will be rock pooling support on hand to answer any of your queries.

Run Falmouth
Take part in Falmouth's first half- marathon in aid of Cornwall Hospice Care. Starting and finishing at The Moor in Falmouth, registration at The Packet Station (Wetherspoons). The routes takes in Gyllyngvase, Swanpool and Maenporth beaches before heading inland to Mawnan Smith and Budock Water finally turning back through Penryn and along the waterfront again as you head into the town.

Walk and Talk with Ron Scamp
Join Ron in a walk and talk around his famous daffodil farm for approx 2hrs. Visits to the farm are normally by appointment only so don't miss your chance to see some of the best daffodils grown in the UK. Please wear suitable walking shoes, dogs are welcome but are to be kept on leads. Parking available on site.

Gardeners’ Question Time
Novice gardeners and the most green-fingered, head for the National Maritime Museum Cornwall to get helpful tips and advice from experts from Cornwall and beyond.

Gyllyngdune Gardens Plant Sales Day
This will be the official launch of plant sales at Gyllyngdune gardens - wander the newly restored gardens, speak to our on site gardener and purchase some some of the plants and shrubs displayed in the gardens.

A Day Walk around Constantine - “Rebellion, rogues and rivers”
Time: pick up 10am from Falmouth or meet at the Waymarker (On the Penryn- Gweek road near Trewardreva Mill at 10:30am. Walk finishes 4:30- 5pm. 2 circular walks total 6/7 miles (10/12kms)

'T' Dancing under the Glitter Ball
Get your glad rags on for a great afternoon of dance! And the music? Old time, modern ballroom, sequence and Latin. All welcome.

The Painted Garden- Lectures & lunch
Award winning garden historian Russell Bowes will be delivering two days of illustrated 'gardens inspired' lunch lectures. A keen gardener himself with interest in historic plants, Russell lectures on a diverse subject range around the country for The National Trust, Imperial War Museum, National Portrait Gallery and the Museum of Garden History in London.

Wild food, forage, cook and dine
Enjoy the diversity of wild food foraged from the North Helford combined with the best of local ingredients.
An exclusive event, limited to 12 people. Includes foraging for wild ingredients along hedgerows and coastal areas with Rachel Lambert. Guided by Hattie Ells of Glendurgan Tea House you’ll help prepare a three course feast and then enjoy the fruits of your labour after an unforgettable learning and sensory experience.

Flora and Fauna Walk around Swanpool Nature Reserve
You will be met by your guide Martin Rule he is a wildlife enthusiast and ecological consultant who will guide you around the reserve at a leisurely pace answering any of your questions along the way. This walk is suitable for anyone from beginners to experts. Suitable for wheelchair users. Dogs welcome.
Venue: Meet at Swanpool beach car park.
Time: 10am
Price: this event is FREE but donations towards the reserve are gratefully received.

Zumba Zestival on the Moor
Join Helen from The Core Fitness as she leads an open air Zumba extravaganza in what we hope to be the largest open air Zumba event ever held in Cornwall!
